Meet the Tribe: Breanna Humphries

Free time has been scarce for Breanna Humphries during the last month. Along with achieving her Certified Food Scientist certification from the International Food Science Certification Commission, Breanna, her husband Eli, and their fox terrier Lennox moved.

“We just moved to Wheeling a few weeks ago, so lately we’ve been doing a lot of painting in our new house,” said Breanna who became a member of the Zieggy Tribe in December 2015. “I went to The Ohio State University to study Food Science. Initially, my husband found a job in Wheeling. The Ziegenfelder Company was the only food company around (Wheeling). But after walking in and meeting the people here, I was drawn to the family-like atmosphere.”

Breanna was initially hired to document processes in the Quality Assurance department. She admitted her job has changed a lot since she started with The Ziegenfelder Company.

“Now, I manage the Infinity system to eliminate paperwork and keep the recipes up-to-date and work on the creation of new flavors,” said Breanna. “My favorite part of my job is that no two days are alike; I always have a new project to work on. It can be hectic at times, but it means that I always have to be on my toes, and I love that.”

Last year, Breanna led efforts with The Ziegenfelder Company to organize holiday service projects at each company location. The Zieggy Tribe volunteered time to make individualized food packets that were distributed locally and then internationally. She continues leading her Zieggy Tribe’s holiday service projects this year.

“Advice I would give to someone new is: Be flexible and don’t be afraid to ask questions,” said Breanna. “It’s OK to not know the answers, as long as you know who to ask for help. When all else fails, smile through it, because a good attitude goes a long way.”
