Ziegenfelder Team Receives Top Recognition At Local Race

Ziegenfelder employees won the Fastest Team award at the Founding Fathers 5K.

MOUNDSVILLE, W.Va., June 25, 2017 - The Ziegenfelder Company celebrated a huge accomplishment at the 3rd Annual Founding Fathers 5K on Saturday. The company was awarded the Fastest Team recognition due to great efforts by six employees who participated in the race. 

Holly Fillipovich, Sonny Baxter, Doug South, Tom Hall, Jose Maass and Herman Hamilton started their trek over hills and through mud at 9 a.m. representing The Ziegenfelder Company. All six made it to the finish line within roughly an hour. The race included more than three miles of rough terrain at Grand Vue Park in Moundsville. 

The physical challenge of the race was nothing compared to the personal challenges faced by some of the members of the Ziegenfelder Team. For example, one employee who walked the race had quadruple bypass surgery just a couple years ago.

The people who made up Saturday’s team represent at least five departments from The Ziegenfelder Company including quality assurance, maintenance, the freezer area, production and administration. Their time with the company ranges from a couple years to more than 25 years of service.

Organizers of the Founding Fathers 5K said the race included more than 100 participants this year and doubled in size from last year. All proceeds from the race went to Crittenton Services, Inc. The organization started in 1895 when the Wheeling Florence Crittenton Home was established to help young girls, children and families who have experienced trauma.
