Meet the Tribe: Ernestina Ramos

Ernestina Ramos has worked in the plant at 400 Yuma Street in Denver, Colorado for the past 14 years, although she’s only been a member of the Zieggy Tribe for four of those years.

“I was with Jackson Ice Cream Company for 10 years,” said Ernestina, who is talking about the company that used to own the building that now houses The Ziegenfelder Company’s Denver facility. “I live five minutes away by car. I can walk to work on nice days.”

Ernestina also described another perk to working at The Ziegenfelder Company: sharing her knowledge and on-the-job experience with fellow members of her Zieggy Tribe.

“I like training people,” said Ernestina. “The hardest part is having patience when training. If I could offer advice to new employees, it would be that it is important to learn multiple parts of the job like relief or lead or operator. It’s a good job that will provide good benefits and pay.”

Ernestina’s experience even goes beyond her time with Jackson Ice Cream Company and The Ziegenfelder Company.

“Before this job, I packed sports ornaments,” said Ernestina. “That was a great job too, but they went out of business. Before that, I also packed chocolates. I guess I’m a professional packer.”

Ernestina, who loves to read any books with a good plot, carries the more important titles of wife, mother and grandmother outside of work.

“I’ve been married for almost 29 years,” said Ernestina. “We have three daughters, one grandchild and one of my other daughters will have a baby soon making me a grandmother again. They will call me Abuelita which is Spanish for Grandmother.”
